Connemara ORIGINAL Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey is one of the most distinctive examples of Irish single malts, as it deliberately uses peated malt, in contrast to the country’s predominantly unpeated style. The whisky is produced by the Cooley Distillery in County Louth, Ireland, which is now part of Suntory Global Spirits. Connemara Whiskey draws on historic Irish distilling traditions, from a time when peat was more commonly used to dry the malted barley. The whisky is made using 100 per cent malted barley. Another distinctive feature is the double distillation, which sets Connemara Whiskey apart from many triple-distilled Irish whiskies and enhances its robust malty and smoky character.

Connemara Original Peated Single Malt is bottled at 40% in a 0.7-litre bottle and carries no age statement. It is matured in oak casks, combining the characteristic peaty smoke with the fruity, mellow base profile of an Irish single malt. The name ‘Connemara’ refers to the region of the same name in the west of Ireland, whilst production actually takes place at the Cooley Distillery. Thanks to the combination of single malt, peated smoke and double distillation, Connemara occupies a special place within the Irish whisky landscape. Tasting Note

Colour: Pale gold.

Nose: Expressive with distinct peaty smoke, accompanied by heather, sweet malt and fresh, fruity notes.

Palate: Smooth and well-balanced with smoke and malt, complemented by honey, ripe fruit and a subtle spicy note.

Finish: Long-lasting and warming, with lingering peat smoke, malty sweetness and subtle spice.

Connemara Original Peated Single Malt Irish Whiskey is particularly well suited to being enjoyed neat at room temperature, although a few drops of still water can further bring out the smoky and fruity notes. Culinary pairings such as smoked salmon, strong hard cheese, grilled meat or dark chocolate complement its peaty character well. This single malt also makes an excellent accompaniment to a hearty meal or as a digestif.
