Riga Black Balsam 1752 Original Recipe Black CURRANT is a modern herbal bitter from Latvia, containing 30 per cent alcohol in a 0.5-litre bottle, which combines the legendary Riga Black Balsam with the intense flavour of natural Nordic blackcurrants. The original’s time-honoured recipe is enhanced with a fruity element, creating a harmonious balance of herbs, berries and a delicate bittersweet flavour. It is based on the characteristic Riga Black Balsam Essence, which is produced using the company’s own single-barrel infusion technology. Selected botanicals are gently macerated in a mixture of alcohol and water before the essence is blended with honey, caramel, natural blackcurrant juice and other ingredients. This speciality is traditionally bottled in the distinctive clay bottles, which protect the contents from light whilst preserving the unmistakable appearance of Riga Black Balsam.

Riga Black Balsam Black CURRANT tastes superb neat, slightly chilled or on the rocks. As a long drink, it pairs particularly well with tonic water, Sodawasser, ginger ale or dry tonic, garnished with fresh blackcurrants, blackberries or a slice of lime. It also makes an excellent base for cocktails with gin, vodka or sparkling wine, thanks to its fruity and tangy aroma. Culinary pairings include game dishes, duck breast, mature blue-veined cheese, dark chocolate, chocolate fondant, cheesecake, berry tart or panna cotta with wild berries.
