The Winkler-Hermaden Olivin 2021 is an expressive red wine from south-east Styria that is one of the top wines from the traditional Winkler-Hermaden winery. With its impressive size of 3 litres in an elegant wooden crate, it presents itself as a wine for special occasions and festive moments. The 33rd vintage of this exceptional wine is based on the Blauer Zweigelt grape variety, which thrives on the mineral-rich soils around the Kapfensteiner Kogel. Named after the semi-precious stone olivine, which is found as an inclusion in the basalt rock of this region, this wine symbolises the connection between earth, wood and vines - a truly unique terroir.


The grapes were carefully harvested by hand from 23 to 29 September 2020 and gently vinified to create a wine that impresses with its finesse and power. The wine was matured for 24 months in Kapfenstein oak barriques, giving the Olivin its distinctive flavour, depth and structure. It was bottled on 25 May 2023 and has been available since 1 September 2023. With an alcohol content of 14% vol., dry ageing and the winery's organic and vegan approach, it epitomises the highest quality and sustainability.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Winkler-Hermaden Olivin 2021 has a deep ruby red colour with an almost black core. Intense aromas of dark cherries, blackberries and plums unfold on the nose, accompanied by fine roasted flavours, vanilla, tobacco and a subtle spiciness from the Kapfenstein oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, dense and structured, with elegant tannins, juicy fruit, fine herbal spice and a long, harmonious finish that impressively emphasises its maturity and complexity.

The Winkler-Hermaden Olivin 2021 is an ideal accompaniment to hearty dishes. It goes excellently with game dishes such as venison, deer or wild boar as well as hearty steaks from the grill or Pfanner. Stews, savoury roasts and mature hard cheeses also complement its aromatic depth perfectly. The ideal serving temperature is 16-18 °C to allow its full strength, flavour and elegance to unfold. As a large bottle in a wooden crate, it is not only a pleasure to drink, but also an impressive gift and collector's item.
