Mit der Laphroaig Elements L3.0 präsentiert die traditionsreiche Islay-Brennerei die dritte Abfüllung ihrer experimentellen Elements-Serie. Diese Edition entstand aus einem ungewöhnlich intensiven Torffeuer im Trockenofen der hauseigenen Mälzerei. Das zum Zeitpunkt des Zwischenfalls auf dem darüberliegenden Darrenboden befindliche Gerstenmalz wurde dadurch besonders stark erhitzt und überdurchschnittlich lange getrocknet – mit spürbaren Auswirkungen auf Charakter und Tiefe des späteren Whiskys.
Wie bei ihren Vorgängern – Elements 1.0 (100 % Islay-Malz) und Elements 2.0 (mit verlängerter Gärung) – verfolgt auch Laphroaig Elements 3.0 das Ziel, durch gezielte Veränderung einzelner Produktionsschritte neue Geschmackserlebnisse zu schaffen. Die komplette Reifung in Ex-Bourbon-Fässern, kombiniert mit dem kräftigen Torffeuer-Malz, ergibt einen Cask Strength Islay Single Malt von außergewöhnlicher Wucht und Eleganz. Abgefüllt mit satten 55,3 % Vol., ist dieser Whisky nicht kühlfiltriert und zeigt sich in natürlicher Farbe. Tasting notes:
Farbe: Leuchtendes Goldgelb.
Nase: Dichte Holzkohle- und Torfaromen, unterlegt von maritimen Noten und salziger Gischt. Dazu gesellen sich dunkle Schokolade, Zimt, Vanille, Zitronenzeste und ein Hauch Datteln und Pflaume.
Geschmack: Intensiv und feurig mit massivem Torfrauch, geröstetem Kakao und Bitterschokolade. Im zweiten Moment entfalten sich fruchtige Anklänge von Brombeere, Stachelbeere und Crème Brûlée.
Abgang: Lang, trocken und vielschichtig mit Noten von Ruß, Leder, Kaminrauch und einer salzigen Atlantiknote.
