Craigellachie - The atypical Speyside single malt with a strong character

Craigellachie is a traditional distillery in the heart of Scotland's Speyside, known for its unconventional single malts. Since 1891, it has been producing whiskies with a strong, meaty profile that clearly stands out from typical Speyside whiskies. One of the reasons for this is the use of traditional worm-tub condensers, which give the whisky its unique character.

Region & origin

The Craigellachie distillery is located in the village of the same name in the Speyside region of Scotland. The name "Craigellachie" means "rocky hill" and refers to the distillery's location above the confluence of the River Spey and River Fiddich.

Production & craft

Craigellachie relies on traditional production methods. Distillation takes place in four copper pot stills and the alcohol vapor is condensed in worm-tub condensers. This method results in a higher sulphur content in the New Make Spirit, which develops complex, meaty aromas during maturation. Fermentation takes around 56 hours in eight wooden washbacks.

Design & Brand Appearance

Craigellachie's bottles have a classic design with historical elements that emphasize the distillery's long tradition and craftsmanship.

  • Craigellachie13 year old: The introduction to the world of Craigellachie - strong, fruity and with a hint of smoke.
  • Craigellachie 13 years Armagnac Cask: Limited edition with additional maturation in Bas-Armagnac casks for a special depth.
  • Craigellachie 17 years: Complex single malt with notes of honey, butterscotch and red apples.
  • Craigellachie 23 years: Long matured whisky with intense aromas of tropical fruits and spices.

Sustainability & certifications

The distillery attaches great importance to sustainable production methods and sources its raw materials locally. The use of traditional methods contributes to the preservation of the craft heritage.

Awards & Reputation

Craigellachie whiskies have won several awards, including the title of "World's Best Single Malt" for the 31-year-old Craigellachie at the World Whiskies Awards. The 17-year-old received a bronze medal at the World Whiskies Awards 2023.
