The Ian Macleod company was founded in 1933 as an independent bottler by Leonard J. Russel and was intended to enrich the local whiskey market with its great products. Characterized by years of success, Ian Macleod is now one of the ten largest whiskey companies and is run by Russel's son Peter. Peter worked as a whiskey broker in the 1950s and can bring a wealth of experience to the management of the company. He even bought the Glengoyene and Tamdhu distilleries from the well-known Edrington Group.
Ian Macleod's product range focuses on various blended Scotch whiskies, but also offers the single malt Smokehead and the special MacLeod's, which come from unspecified distilleries. Numerous single malt whiskies are also regularly brought onto the market as series, including single cask bottlings and small batches from the Highlands, Islay and Speyside. Each bottling is characterized by a unique aroma profile.
The headquarters of the Ian Macleod family business is located in Broxburn in the Scottish Lowlands and thus in the immediate vicinity of the capital Edinburgh. The brand honors the Scottish clan MacLeod, whose family seat is located on the Isle of Skey and who became famous for their participation in Robert de Bruce's battle against the English.
