Der St. Kilian ULTRA HEAVILY PEATED Single Malt Whisky ist eine kompromisslose Abfüllung für Liebhaber intensiver Rauchigkeit. Mit einem extremen Phenolgehalt von 91 ppm gehört dieser Whisky zu den rauchigsten weltweit produzierten Single Malts – und stammt dennoch nicht aus Schottland, sondern aus der deutschen St. Kilian Distillers Brennerei im fränkischen Rüdenau. Produziert mit stark getorftem schottischem Gerstenmalz und in klassischen Pot Stills destilliert, zeigt diese Abfüllung eindrucksvoll, wie kraftvoll deutscher Whisky sein kann.
Die Reifung erfolgte in einer ausgewogenen Mischung aus ex-Bourbon Barrels und virgin American Oak Casks, die dem intensiven Torfrauch eine süß-würzige Tiefe und feine Holznoten hinzufügen. Mit einem hohen Alkoholgehalt von 59,7 % Vol. wurde dieser Whisky in Fassstärke abgefüllt – selbstverständlich ohne Kühlfiltration und ohne Farbstoffe. Eine vollmundige, explosive Abfüllung, die den Geist Islays auf deutsche Weise interpretiert. Tasting notes:
Farbe: Intensives Gold mit leicht rötlichem Schimmer.
Nase: Dominanter Torfrauch, Asche, Teer, gepaart mit Vanille, Karamell, Leder und dunkler Würze.
Geschmack: Mächtig, rauchig und würzig mit Aromen von BBQ, verkohltem Holz, süßer Eiche, dunkler Schokolade und schwarzem Pfeffer.
Abgang: Sehr lang, trocken und rauchig mit Noten von Glut, Espresso und maritimer Würze.
Dieser Whisky entfaltet sich ideal pur in kleinen Schlucken oder mit wenigen Tropfen Wasser, um die komplexen Rauch- und Fassnoten zu balancieren. Kulinarisch eignet er sich als Begleitung zu gegrilltem Rindfleisch, geräuchertem Käse oder dunkler Bitterschokolade. Auch als Begleiter zu einer kräftigen Zigarre ist er ideal.
