The name Batonnage is derived from the oenological term for the stirring of yeast in barriques and symbolizes a wine with unprecedented intensity and expressiveness. The cuvée is based on Blaufränkisch and Cabernet Sauvignon from the Leithaberg in Jois as well as Merlot from a top vineyard in Andau. Only strictly selected, highly ripe grapes are processed. The wine is matured for 2 × 12 months in new French barriques, resulting in a monumental red wine with enormous density, structure and depth. Each vintage is limited to a maximum of 12 barriques, making Batonnage one of the rarest and most sought-after wines in Austria.
