Bulleit Frontier Whiskey is a Kentucky straight bourbon that is characterized by its high rye content of 28%. This recipe gives it a strong, spicy character with a smooth, clean finish. The brand was founded in 1987 by Tom Bulleit, inspired by a family recipe from his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit from the 19th century.
Bulleit is produced at the Bulleit Distilling Co. in Shelbyville, Kentucky. The distillery uses pure, lime-filtered water and stores the whiskey in burnt-out American white oak barrels to give it its characteristic depth and color.
The mash consists of 68% corn, 28% rye and 4% malted barley. The high rye component provides the distinctive spiciness, while the corn gives the bourbon a pleasant sweetness. The whiskey is matured for at least six years before being bottled at 45% vol.
The Bulleit Frontier Whiskey bottle is designed in the style of the American West - robust and striking, with embossed lettering and a label reminiscent of the pioneer era.
The distillery emphasizes sustainable practices, including water conservation, use of local ingredients and environmentally friendly packaging.
Bulleit Whiskey has won multiple awards, including gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The Bulleit 10 Year in particular received a Double Gold award.
