Winery Hans Igler - red wine pioneer from central Burgenland
The Hans Igler winery in Deutschkreutz, founded in the 1960s, is one of the pioneers of Austrian quality red wine. Hans Igler was one of the first winegrowers to introduce barrique ageing and establish international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, the Reisner-Igler family is the third generation to run the winery, with son Clemens at the helm.
Region & origin
With around 40 hectares of vineyards in the best locations in Blaufränkischland, such as Ried Hochberg and Ried Biiri, the winery benefits from sandy loam and gravel soils as well as the Pannonian climate. These conditions give the wines depth and structure.
Production & craftsmanship
The wines are produced using natural viticulture with selective hand-picking, low yields and gentle processing. Maturation takes place in around 700 barrique barrels in the historic Schaflerhof, the heart of the winery.
Design & brand appearance
The labels, designed by Austrian artist Anton Lehmden, give the wines an unmistakable visual identity that unites art and wine.
