History of Hennessy

As the market leader in Cognac, Hennessy has been celebrating outstanding adventures around the world for over 250 years. Hennessy is synonymous with the finest quality Cognac and has a long and impressive history. Founded in 1765 by Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer in the service of the French King, the journey of this iconic brand began in the heart of the Cognac region of France. The brand is now represented in over 160 countries and is based in the heart of the Charente region. As the first wine and spirits house to be ISO 14 001 certified, Hennessy protectively combines its innovative strength with the collaboration of all its partners. With an export share of 99 percent, Hennessy contributes significantly to France's international trade and is a global ambassador of the French Art de Vivre.

For over 250 years, Hennessy has perfected the art of Cognac production, with every step from grape selection to distillation and ageing carried out with the utmost care and tradition.

Production of Hennessy Cognac

Hennessy Cognac begins with the selection of the best grapes from Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois. These grapes are distilled twice to extract the purest essence of their flavor. Hennessy's master distiller carefully monitors the distillation process to ensure that only the heart of the distillate, known as "eau-de-vie", is used for ageing.

Maturation takes place in specially selected oak barrels from the Limousin and Tronçais forests, which give the Cognac its complex aroma and depth. During the ageing process, the Cognac slowly develops its characteristic notes of dried fruit, spices and subtle oak aromas.

Hennessy is renowned for its art of blending different eaux-de-vie to create harmonious and balanced Cognacs. This careful blending process requires both experience and a deep understanding of the subtle nuances of each distillation.
