The Camarena family is one of the best-known tequila producers in Mexico. Its history dates back to the 18th century, when its ancestors came to Mexico from Spain and co-founded the town of Arandas. Their distillery is still located here today. The Camarenas planted the first agave plants for the production of tequila around 150 years ago in the highlands of Jalisco.
After blockbusters such as Tapaito and El Tesoro, they have now presented the world with pure Tequila No. 8, or Tequila Ocho. There are plenty of reasons why Tequila Ocho has the number eight in its name: It takes about eight years for the agave plants to mature. Around 8 kilos of agave are used to produce one liter of Tequila Ocho. It then takes 8 days for these agaves to become a Blanco Tequila. The Ocho Reposado is exactly 8 weeks and 8 days old. In addition, company boss Carlos Camarena has eight siblings and the Camarena family is now in its eighth generation of tequila production.
With Tequila Ocho, the Camarena family have bottled the first tequila to include the exact location of the agave field and the year of bottling on its label. They invented the vintage tequila, so to speak. Not least because of this, Tequila Ocho is very popular among connoisseurs and collectors.
