Viña Real is a renowned wine line from the Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España (CVNE), founded in 1920. The wines come from Rioja Alavesa and are characterized by their elegance and exceptional ageing potential. The modern winery, designed by architect Philippe Mazières, combines traditional winemaking with innovative architecture and houses over 14,000 barriques.
The grapes for Viña Real come mainly from the municipalities of Laguardia and Elciego in Rioja Alavesa. The continental climate and calcareous soils of this region provide ideal conditions for the cultivation of Tempranillo and other indigenous grape varieties.
The wines from Viña Real are vinified traditionally and mature in French and American oak barrels, depending on the category. The Crianza matures for around 13-14 months, while the Gran Reserva spends at least two years in the barrel and a further year in the bottle to develop its complexity.
