Description

The Port Charlotte SC:01 Heavily Peated Islay Single Malt 2012 55.2% Vol. 0.7 l is a distinctive bottling from Bruichladdich, a distillery that has stood for precision craftsmanship, a spirit of innovation and whiskies with a strong character since it was founded on the island of Islay in 1881. Unlike many distilleries that have emerged from old farmhouses, Bruichladdich was designed and built as a modern distillery from the outset. Much of the historic equipment is still in use today. After periods of closure and several changes of ownership, the distillery was extensively renovated in 2000. Under the management of Jim McEwan and his successor Adam Hannett, Bruichladdich developed into one of the most influential distilleries in Iceland.

The Port Charlotte SC:01 is the first bottling in the Cask Exploration Series, with 100% of the barley coming from the island of Islay - grown by seven farmers whose fields are no more than ten miles away from the distillery. After distillation in the characteristic narrow-neck stills, this whisky is matured in a sophisticated combination of sherry butts, first fill and second fill American whiskey casks, which have been transferred to fine Sauternes wine casks at different times. These come from the left bank of the Garonne, from the famous Bordeaux region. As is customary at Bruichladdich, neither chill-filtering nor coloring is used so that the natural character can fully unfold. The result is an intense, multi-layered and long-lasting aromatic Heavily Peated Single Malt that reflects the distillery's unmistakable style. Nose: Sweet stone fruit, honeydew melon, ripe pineapple, light vanilla, peat smoke and toasted oak.

Taste: Elegant peat smoke, ripe fruit, sweet vanilla, chocolate and fresh citrus notes.

Finish: Long-lasting, maritime, with earthy peat smoke and citrus accents.

Port Charlotte SC:01 is ideal for pure enjoyment, preferably at a low temperature or in a wide nosing glass, so that its complex layers of fruit and smoke can unfold. With food, it harmonizes perfectly with strong dishes such as smoked salmon, marinated meat, hearty cheese platters or grilled seafood. Dark chocolate, orange tart, caramel desserts or spicy shortbread also create a deep, aromatic combination. In whisky pairing cuisine, it accompanies strong ragouts, BBQ flavors and earthy vegetable dishes. Its intense, long-lasting, multi-layered aromas also make it an excellent meditative after-dinner whisky. (automated translation)
