Becherovka - the legendary herbal liqueur from Karlovy Vary
Becherovka has been produced in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, since 1807 according to a top-secret recipe using around 20 herbs, spices and spring water. After macerating for several weeks, the extract matures in oak barrels to achieve its characteristic, bittersweet aroma.
Region & origin
Born in the historic spa town of Karlovy Vary and still produced in the Jan Becher Distillery to this day - Becherovka is an expression of Czech tradition and a strong bond with its homeland.
Production & craft
The mix of herbs and spices is dipped in alcohol in cloth bags and later matured with sugar, water and oak wood - without any artificial additives. Only two employees know the exact recipe - a real family secret.
Flavors & enjoyment
Becherovka impresses with its spicy and tart notes: Cinnamon, cloves, ginger, bitter orange and subtle herbal nuances. The strong taste is rounded off by a smooth, dry finish and its crisp freshness.
Mixing recommendation
Pure ice cold - frozen to -18 °C - or traditionally as Becherovka Beton with tonic and lemon zest. Also ideal in cocktails such as Herbal Mule and winter drinks.
