Black Velvet is a Canadian whisky known for its exceptional smoothness. Originally known as "Black Label", the name was changed to "Black Velvet" in the 1940s by Master Distiller Jack Napier to emphasize the velvety texture of the whisky.
The production of Black Velvet began in Valleyfield, Quebec, and was later moved to the modern Black Velvet Distillery in Lethbridge, Alberta. The distillery uses crystal clear Canadian water and selected rye and corn to create a unique whisky.
Black Velvet is produced using the "blending at birth" method, where the distillates are blended immediately after distillation and then matured in oak barrels. This technique contributes to the characteristic softness and consistency of the whisky.
