In 1880, William Scheffler acquired one of the largest wineries in the famous Napa Valley, California. He expanded this winery and added a distillation plant. From this point onwards, Scheffler began producing various wine-based spirits. He had achieved some good success with this company by producing excellent spirits. After these notable successes and international awards, however, the company went somewhat quiet.
Just a few years later, the company was revived by Leslie Rudd and built on the old success with new innovations. Rudd bought the entire estate and restored the old winery. However, due to limited space, the decision was made to relocate the entire production to a warehouse in San Francisco directly on the coast.
This special location by the sea has undoubtedly contributed to the fame and reputation of No. 209 Gin. But that alone does not make a good gin. Much more is needed. No. 209 Gin is distilled from a mash of corn. To make the gin particularly smooth, it is distilled five times. This takes place four times in a distillation column. Then for the last 11 hours in a still similar to those at the Glenmorangie distillery in Scotland. The fine gin has aromas of bergamot, juniper, coriander, lemon, cardamom, cinnamon and angelica root.
