Delaforce has been synonymous with high-quality port wines from the Douro Valley for over 150 years. Founded in 1868 by George Henry Delaforce, the company quickly developed into one of the leading port wine producers and was even purveyor to the Portuguese royal court between 1894 and 1906.
Delaforce sources its grapes from renowned vineyards in the Douro Valley, in particular from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub-regions. Maturation takes place in the historic wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.
The port wines are produced traditionally: After fermentation, the fermentation is stopped by adding wine distillate to preserve the natural sweetness. For premium bottlings such as the Vintage Port, mash fermentation is sometimes still carried out by foot punching to ensure maximum aroma extraction.
