Knappogue Castle - traditional single malt with Irish charm
Knappogue Castle was launched in 1998, based on a portfolio of rare, hand-selected single malts - named after Knappogue Castle in County Clare. Today the brand belongs to Irish Distillers (Pernod Ricard) and comprises matured premium whiskeys with triple distillation and careful cask selection.
Region & Origin
Irish single malt, triple distilled in copper pot stills, with grain from Ireland, matured in bourbon and/or sherry casks in the mild climate of the humid west of Ireland.
Production & Craft
The classic bottling (12 years) is produced in traditional stills and matured exclusively in ex-bourbon casks. Longer variants (14 J Twin Wood, 16 J Twin Wood) are also combined with an Oloroso sherry finish - non-chill-filtered and without the addition of artificial coloring.
Design & brand appearance
The bottles feature a harmonious castle motif, elegant labels in light blue to dark blue for the older vintages - clear, elegant and with a reference to the Irish origin.
Variety & highlights
- 12 years: Triple distilled, aromas of cookie, pepper, ripe fruit, medium-long, clear finish.
- 14 years Twin Wood: Combines bourbon and sherry casks: Apple, apricot, nut, vanilla, creamy texture.
- 16 year old Twin Wood: Intense with complex sherry depth, fruity and nutty profile.

Awards & Reputation
Knappogue Castle enjoys excellent reviews: The 12-year-old is known for its elegant lightness, and larger bottlings regularly score highly with critics - including 92 in the Ultimate Beverage Challenge. Historic bottles (1951, 36 J) are traded as "archival treasures".
