Mannochmore - Speyside single malt with a floral lightness
Founded in 1971 and now part of the Diageo portfolio, Mannochmore is a high-performance distillery in Elgin that mainly produces for blends - rare single malt bottlings have only been officially released since 1992.
Region & origin
The distillery is located in the renowned Speyside region, fed by the Bardon Burn and equipped with unpeated malt. This mild spring water gives the whiskies their floral and fruity notes - a typical Speyside profile.
Production & craft
Mannochmore works with a mash tun (12 tons), eight washbacks, three wash stills and three spirit stills - all indirectly heated with steam. Production takes place all year round, sometimes alternating with Glenlossie to ensure consistent quality.
Design & brand image
The official presence consists mainly of the Flora & Fauna series - the 12-year-old main edition is particularly striking. Independent casks occasionally appear exclusively under Signatory or Rites of Passage - collectors' and whisky connoisseurs' strongholds.
Variety & highlights
- Flora & Fauna 12 year old: Light, floral, with aromas of vanilla, citrus and dry malt.
- Loch Dhu (former): Cult single malt, deep dark, unusual - now a sought-after rarity.
- Signatory / Rites of Passage single casks: Cask-strength with fruity spice, herbs and subtle oak maturation.
Sustainability & certifications
As part of Diageo, Mannochmore shares its sustainability standards. Resource-conserving water use and recycling of residues via the dark grains plant are integral components.
Awards & reputation
Appreciated in specialist circles as "fresh, flowery, dry" - independent bottlings such as an 18-year-old "Manager's Dram" receive very high ratings.
Conclusion
Mannochmore is a rarely discovered Speyside single malt with subtle floral and fruity notes, ideal for connoisseurs and beginners alike. At delicando, connoisseurs can find hand-picked editions - in search of the silent Speyside star.
