Zwack Unicum is a traditional Hungarian herbal liqueur that has been produced according to a secret family recipe for over two centuries. With its unique blend of over 40 herbs and spices, Unicum offers an intense taste experience that is appreciated both as a digestif and as an aperitif.
The story of Unicum began in Budapest in 1790, when Dr. József Zwack, personal physician at the Habsburg court, created the liqueur for Emperor Joseph II. The emperor is said to have exclaimed after the first sip: "This is unique!" - and thus gave the drink its name.
Unicum is produced through a combination of maceration and distillation of the herbs, followed by maturation in oak barrels for at least six months. This process gives the liqueur its characteristic dark color and complex, bitter-sweet taste.
Unicum is presented in the iconic spherical bottle with the red cross on a white background - a design that has been used since 1883 and underlines the brand's recognition value.
