Description
DAS PHANTOM 2023 is the legendary signature wine from K+K Kirnbauer in central Burgenland - a red wine with cult status that has been one of Austria's style-defining cuvées for decades. The 2023 vintage consists of a finely balanced blend of 44% Blaufränkisch, 23% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 4% Syrah. The vines are rooted in heavy clay and sandy loam soils, which gives the wine its depth, strength and spice.
After temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the young wine underwent malolactic fermentation in barriques, followed by 18 months of maturation in 225-liter French oak barrels. This phase gives the wine its polished tannin structure, fine roasted aromas and a complex aroma with depth. In the glass, DAS PHANTOM is a dense dark garnet red with a violet core. The nose reveals a multi-layered bouquet of juicy wild berries, black olives, rosemary and fresh mint, elegantly underpinned with cedar wood, tobacco leaves, ink lead and fine leather. The barrique ageing contributes subtle roasted aromas that blend harmoniously into the overall picture. On the palate, the wine is powerful and juicy, with dark berries, Pannonian spice and a hint of cappuccino. The youthful tannins are well integrated and, together with the fresh, animating acidity, ensure elegance and balance. The spicy, minty finish lends additional length and character to the finish.
