Description

The Caol Ila 12 Years Old is one of the most important representatives of the island of Islay and is part of the famous Classic Malts of Scotland. Since 1846, the distillery of the same name has been creating a style that combines maritime freshness, fine smokiness and balanced complexity. The 12-year-old malt is considered a middle-weight Caol Ila, but shows an impressive combination of crisp phenols, oily structures and a clear, characterful strength. This bottling is a well-balanced, peaty beauty that will delight both long-time Islay aficionados and newcomers alike. The enclosed gift box (GB) underlines its high-quality character.

The malt is pure and white-golden, thanks to its classic maturation in oak casks and the use of colouring to harmonize the hue. Typical of Caol Ila, the whisky combines sparkling fresh salt flavors of the sea with powerful peat notes, with an initial sweetness creating an elegant balance. At 43% vol., it is soft, aromatic and yet energetic - an impressive expression of the maritime Islay style.

Nose: Delicate citrus notes, fresh maritime aromas, light gauze nuances, a pinch of tobacco and increasingly powerful smoke.

Taste: Fine, soft texture; initially mild sweetness, which is quickly replaced by intense peat smoke and subtle tropical fruits.

Finish: Long, clean and persistently smoky.

This Islay malt harmonizes perfectly with smoked meats such as salmon, mackerel or BBQ dishes as well as strong cheeses such as cheddar or blue cheese. Lemon tart, dark chocolate with sea salt or roasted nuts also complement its maritime smokiness particularly well. Its salty freshness unfolds impressively in combination with oysters or seafood starters. Ganz einfach einer meiner Islay Lieblinge : klar rauchig und klasse Torfnote, aber auch deutliche Zitrusaromen und einen guten Fasscharakter

Ich trinke Caol Ila 12 aus einem Glencairn, neat.
Präsentiert sich leicht ölig auf der Zunge, was mir sehr gefällt.
Wenn man wissen möchte wie ein Islay Whisky schmeckt, ist Caol Ila 12 ein sehr guter Einstieg. Ich persönlich bevorzuge aber den Talisker 10.

Klar, torfig und frisch. Nicht zu intensiv, aber mit allen typischen Islay-Elementen! Lange waren die Whiskies dieser Brennerei als einfache Verschnitt-Whiskies verschrien. Heute gewiss nicht mehr! Grosse Klasse!
