Old Ballantruan is a rarity: a heavily peated single malt whisky from Speyside, a region otherwise known for mild, fruity whiskies. Produced in the Tomintoul Distillery, this whisky is bottled with an alcohol content of 50% and deliberately dispenses with chill-filtration - for maximum character.
Old Ballantruan comes from the highland village of Tomintoul in the heart of Speyside. The region is famous for its many distilleries - but hardly any of them venture into such intense peaty notes as Old Ballantruan. It is named after the Ballantruan spring from which the water for production comes.
Heavily peated barley malt is used, which gives the whisky its intense smoky aroma. Maturation takes place in carefully selected oak barrels, whereby cold filtration is deliberately avoided. This ensures that complex aromas and natural oils are fully preserved.
The dark, matt bottle with silver lettering and bold appearance reflects the distinctive character of the whisky. A design that arouses curiosity and respect in equal measure - just like its contents.
