Amrut Whisky
Single malt whisky is no longer only produced in Scotland. High-quality single malt is now produced all over the world. The Amrut distillery has made a name for itself as the best-known Indian whisky distillery. In the heart of India, this distillery produces inexpensive blends as well as high-quality single malt whisky of excellent quality.
“Amrut” is a term in the Sanskrit language and translates as “nectar of the gods”. This is the distillery's way of distinguishing itself from the numerous cheap whiskies that are very popular in India. In contrast to these no-name products, Amrut whisky is produced to the same high quality as Scottish single malt. American white oak casks are typically used to store the whisky. However, sherry, port wine casks and other types of cask are now also increasingly being used in order to offer connoisseurs the broadest possible portfolio.
The classic representative of the distillery is the Amrut Indian Single Malt. It matures for around 4 years in wood and impresses with its sweet and fruity aromas as well as a subtle oak spiciness. There are also numerous other bottlings, such as the Amrut Fusion. This consists of a combination of unmalted Indian malt and peated Scottish malt. This characterful Amrut whisky is bottled at an impressive 50% alcohol and offers the connoisseur plenty of scope for dilution. Indian whisky can therefore certainly keep up with its Scottish competitors.
