The Whisky Galore range, created by Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky Limited, pays tribute to the fascinating history of the SS Politician. It comprises a new generation of premium whiskies, including single malt and single grain whiskies as well as blends, all of which are offered in limited editions. Highlights include single malts such as Miltonduff, Tormore, Glenallachie and Macallan, Aultmore, all of which are bottled at 46% alcohol with no chill-filtering or artificial coloring, in their most natural form from the cask straight into the bottle.
The inspiring story behind Whisky Galore dates back to 1941, when the cargo ship SS Politician ran aground and sank off the coast of the Scottish island of Eriskay. On board were 3 million pounds worth of Jamaican banknotes and 24,000 cases of premium blended Scotch whisky. The islanders, craving a drink of whisky during the hardships of the Second World War, took the opportunity to salvage as much of the precious drink as they could from the wreck.
To honor this legendary event, the Whisky Galore was conceived as a 7-year-old single malt from a prestigious Speyside distillery.
