Description
The Salzl Grande Cuvée Josanna 2021 is a prime example of the fine art of red wine cuvée in Burgenland. It comes from the renowned Salzl Seewinkelhof winery, which is based in Illmitz on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl. The traditional family winery has stood for powerful, terroir-driven red wines with an international style and Austrian soul for generations.
This exclusive cuvée combines the Zweigelt, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Cabernet Franc grape varieties - an exceptionally harmonious composition that is full of depth, fruit and spice. The vines thrive on multi-layered soils consisting of loess-like Tschernosem with a high gravel content, Paratschernosem with gravel-rich sand and pure sandy soil - ideal conditions for structured and mineral red wines from Burgenland.
Vinification is carried out using traditional mash fermentation in stainless steel tanks at around 30 °C for 14 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for 12 months in small oak barrels, which gives it additional depth, elegance and a fine woody spiciness. Bottled with a natural cork and with ageing potential until 2033, this cuvée is a true flagship of Austrian red wine art.
